Moving forward there is going to be an official role for former Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive lineman Tony Boselli in the team’s front office structure.
It was reported by CBS Sports Jonathan Jones that once the Jaguars moved on from then-general manager Trent Baalke, that Boselli was assisting owner Shad Khan and others with the team’s head coaching search.
Now with that complete, Boselli will continue to assist the Jaguars but in a full-time capacity.
“We are going to have a position,” said Khan on Monday about Boselli. “And we’re checking with the league what the rules are and what we have to follow and then we’ll take it from there.”
As Khan eluded to, the specifics of that role for Boselli still have to be ironed out. But Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer provided some potential insight recently.
“The model here, I’d think,” wrote Breer, “would be the role Chris Spielman serves in Detroit, in helping ownership set the table for Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes and Mike Disner to build and run the team.”

The Lions’ team site also mentions that Spielman played an “integral role” in the hiring of general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell. Spielman reports directly to President and CEO Rod Wood.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently described the do-it-all role that Spielman fills in Detroit:
“The bigger focus for Spielman has been the culture across the football and business offices,” wrote Florio. “Every Tuesday during the season, for example, he meets with the business-side employees and performs a full film breakdown of the prior game and a look ahead to the next opponent.
“At times, he’ll participate in walk-through practices as a linebacker. He basically does whatever he believes needs to be done. Including on multiple occasions helping the grounds crew refill divots during practice.”
If Boselli’s role with the Jaguars mirrors Spielman’s with the Lions, then Boselli is going to be an important part of the Jacksonville’s GM search as well and may directly report to Khan.
