“Few people have better relationships throughout the NFL, know the game, and understand the value of strong team identity and culture as well as Tony Boselli,” owner Shad Khan said in a statement. “Tony has a wealth of football acumen that we respect and need, and his counsel will be tremendously valuable to me and our football leadership team during this current rebirth and for many seasons to come.”
This move doesn’t come as a surprise. It was reported a few weeks ago by NFL insider Jonathan Jones that Boselli was apart of the Jaguars’ head coaching search.
Then, during Liam Coen’s introductory press conference, owner Shad Khan was asked if Boselli would have an official role with the team, which he confirmed was going to happen.
Khan added that the Jaguars were in the midst of working with the NFL on what the rules are and what had to be followed in order to make the front office addition happen.
According to the Jaguars’ team site, Boselli will report to Khan as does head coach Liam Coen and the team’s future general manager.
The trio of Boselli, Coen and the next GM will for the “football leadership unit,” and will work together on “major football decisions, develop a long-term strategy for sustainable on-field success, and provide counsel to the team owner.”
