Hale End star sends farewell message after Arsenal transfer confirmed

Youngster Zak Swanson has sent a farewell to Arsenal after his transfer to League 1 outfit Portsmouth was confirmed.

Swanson joined the north London club back in 2007 before signing his first professional contract in 2019. However, he never made a first-team appearance for the Gunners and has now joined Danny Cowley's side on a long-term deal.

Now, he has taken to social media to wish Arsenal well, thanking everyone at the club for aiding his development over the last 15 years. His Instagram post read: "Its been a privilege to play for the club I've always supported for 15 years.

"To start at the club from the age of 6 and to have met and played with some top players and people its been an honour! There's been many ups and downs but its been a journey I will never forget and will always live with me.

"A massive thank you to everyone involved with the club for the help and support over this time. I wish everyone at the club nothing but the best and every success going forward. Once a gunner always a gunner!"

Arsenal's club statement stated: "Zak Swanson has joined League One side Portsmouth in a permanent transfer. The versatile defender joined our Hale End Academy in May 2009, when he was eight years old.

"During his Arsenal career, Zak spent valuable time at MVV Maastricht when he went on loan in August 2020. The 21-year-old has been an integral part of our Academy sides over the years, his hard work was rewarded when he featured on the bench in the Premier League numerous times in the second part of last season.

"We wish Zak all the best for his future with Portsmouth, he will always be a valued part of the Arsenal family. The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."
