Hakim Ziyech returns as Chelsea receive triple boost following Roman Abramovich decision

Another midweek fixture has been and gone and the preparation for another Premier League clash at the weekend is well underway.

Chelsea's stars returned to the training fields at Chelsea's base in Surrey to begin getting up to speed for the trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley.

The Clarets earned a draw against Thomas Tuchel's side in November and the Blues will be hoping to not drop any points on this occasion to help secure their place in a Champions League qualification position and not allow Manchester City and Liverpool another opportunity to extend their lead at the top.

It was a reduced group at Cobham on Thursday, but football.london took a look to see what could be garnered from the information released by the Blues.

Back in action

Hakim Ziyech, Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva were all back on the Cobham training pitches on Thursday.

The former Ajax star missed out on the trip to Wembley at the weekend and was ruled out of the FA Cup win over Luton Town by Tuchel, having missed training in the build up as he remained 'uncomfortable'.

Chalobah had some obvious discomfort following Naby Keita's challenge against Liverpool, and was not utilised against the Hatters, but was back in action. He was only shown with a ball at his feet rather than around teammates but a promising sign given the situation he found himself in the Wembley dressing room.

"It was a proper cut very close in the area of the groin. It was open and needed to be closed. He was tough, very, very tough, so full respect because it shows what it takes," Tuchel explained.

"It looked horrible. I went in and saw it and it looked horrible. I could not believe that he played one more minute with this kind of injury – but he played the full match and scored a penalty.

"This is really big. I was going to say he showed some balls but maybe that's the wrong line! He was really, really brave to do this, and full credit."

Silva was also back among the group after presumably being rested for the trip north of London given the huge number of minutes he has played in recent weeks.

Youngsters still involved

There was no sign of Dylan Williams on this occasion but it appears that Harvey Vale and Lewis Hall remained with the smaller first team group.

Vale managed to get on the pitch against Luton to earn his fourth appearance for the Blues. The youngster looked comfortable during the match and, while he didn't have a huge impact, the 30 minutes he was on the pitch did coincide with Chelsea scoring twice to come back and win.

The 18-year-old's display earned some praise from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

He said: “He did really well tonight, he held his own against some physical and strong players. He didn’t look out of place at all. Well done Harvey, I’m sure it felt natural to him. It looked very natural to him. Hopefully he can kick on now and get confidence from that."

Hall was also in the squad for the trip but had to settle for a place on the bench like a number of teammates training on Thursday.

Players missing

Understandably those who started the fixture at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night were not present with this group, as they recover from the back and forth clash.

The players pictured included: Hakim Ziyech, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, Lewis Hall, Harvey Vale, Kai Havertz, Trevoh Chalobah, Christian Pulisic, Thiago Silva and Reece James.

However, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen were still not among the group after the former picked up a knock against Liverpool while the Denmark international was ruled out of the Carabao Cup final match with an Achilles issue.
