Hairy Bikers visit award-winning restaurant in little known postcard Leeds village

In their most recent show, The Hairy Bikers Go Local, cooks Dave and Si explore the many fantastic restaurants that the UK has to offer. This week, they were in Yorkshire - Leeds, in fact.

The talented chefs were paying a visit to Prashad Indian restaurant in Drighlington. They visited the AA and Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded restaurant to get an idea of how owners, Bobby and Minal, set their restaurant apart from the pack.

After getting a chance to watch Minal in action, who was making dosa to accompany a tasty looking curry, Dave and Si set off on a tour around Leeds to find some local ingredients for their own creations.

They visited an innovative mushroom farm in Ilkey; a family-run rhubarb farm situated in the 'Rhubarb Triangle' - which is the name given to an area between Leeds and Bradford, famous for, you guessed it, Rhubarb - and one of the UK's largest suppliers of beetroot.

After gathering their ingredients, the duo headed back to base where they whipped up some delicious delicacies ready to try and impress Bobby and Minal. On their menu was a beetroot-filled paratha, along with a cooling rhubarb kulfi.

It was the bikers' last visit to Leeds before Dave Myers was diagnosed with cancer and started on chemo.

The idea of sourcing these local ingredients was to see if Bobby and Minal would be interested in using these suppliers back at Prashad. And, once the pair had been given a taste test, it was a no brainer - they were sold on introducing the local produce to their customers back at the restaurant.

And the local angle was a hit with viewers, too. @StewartMRegan said: "Go Local series. Booked a table at Prashad near Leeds tomorrow night on the strength of it. Fantastic to see local produce being built into the menu - mushrooms, rhubarb & beetroot. All from Yorkshire. Tremendous!"
