Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers 'in tears' as he gives emotional update on cancer treatment

Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has shared an emotional update after his ''gruelling' cancer diagnosis. The culinary whizz has been able to get back on his beloved bike for the first time since his cancer treatment.

Dave, who fronts the Hairy Bikers duo alongside pal Si King, first revealed his diagnosis in May 2022, reports The Mirror. The star hasn't specified the type of cancer he has, but has opened up that he's been through “30 lots” of chemotherapy over the past year.

The star has also returned to his love of travelling, biking and cooking as the pair prepare to film a BBC Two travel series, The Hairy Bikers Go West, which will see them journey from Scotland to Devon across eight episodes. Dave has now given an update to fans as he reveals he's had to learn to ride his bike again, after 'gruelling' chemotherapy left him unable to walk.

In an update to fans, he said: “It’s been hard but I’m not the only one and I’m getting through it and I’m back at work. I’ve had to learn to walk again and ride my bike again, and to get on my bike again with Kingy in the sunshine brought tears to both our eyes.”

The star has hailed being back on his beloved bike as a milestone moment for his recovery, after a particularly challenging treatment which has included multiple sessions of chemotherapy. He previously told The Times: “I’m doing all right. It’s a work in progress. We’ve had some hard years but this one’s been… I’ve had 30 lots of chemo, spread over three weeks and then a week off. It’s going the right way.”

He added that his doctors think they can turn the last bit of cancer “off with radiotherapy”. "So that’s five sessions every other week and then I go film in Scotland for two weeks, then go back on chemo, but that’ll be twice a month.”

Dave, alongside pal Si King, have been known as The Hairy Bikers since they began cooking together on TV in 2004. In 2013, Dave took part in Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with Karen Hauer.

Best pal and co-star Si King also gave an update on Dave in an interview with The Yorkshire Post as he shared: "There’s a sense of loss, but there’s also that sense of hope, you know, knowing my mate as I do. He’s a scrapper. He’s a fighter.

"But there were certain points that I thought, ‘Where’s it going to go? What is happening to my friend?'”
