Hairy Bikers' Si King announces 'amazing news' as he cooks up a new project

The Hairy Bikers' Si King has revealed he is embarking upon an "exciting" new venture following the end of his latest series with fellow chef Dave Myers.

The locally-born chef and his fellow Hairy Bikers co-star recently announced that their Go Local series - which followed the pair as they tried out innovative food suppliers, local delicacies and restaurants
- was wrapping up after only eight episodes, one of which featured the North East. In a statement to fans they said: "Sadly, the series has come to an end.

"We hope you enjoyed the series and the journey we went through with each episode; we look forward to seeing you on your telly sometime soon." But it seems that fans will be able to see King earlier than that - and in person - because two weeks from the Go Local update the chef shared news that he will be taking part in a major food festival.

King, who just days ago was in Newcastle trying out new Gosforth restaurant Ophelia, took to social media to announce his solo venture will be at Pub in the Park, a festival which is the brainchild of celebrity chef Tom Kerridge and is out to celebrate everything there is to love about the glorious British pub, reports the Liverpool Echo.

He wrote: "EXCITING NEWS. I’m heading to @pubinthepark Leamington Spa and Tunbridge Wells in July, then Chiswick in September. Find me at the Saturday sessions at these locations! See you there?" And the Facebook post urged people to head to the Pub in the Park website to sign up for early pre-sale access, which opened on Friday.

King is a regular at food events and some of last year's local dates in his diary included a visit to in Sunderland to help promote a healthy cooking event and an appearance at the debut of The Great Market Caper in Newcastle. Fans responded to his latest post with delight, with comments including "This has absolutely made my weekend!!" and "Ooh yes I’ll be over in July woohoo xxx."

For more about the upcoming Pub in the Park see the website here. For those who missed out on Go Local, The Hairy Bikers say that all episodes of their series are available on iPlayer and that all recipes can be found on the BBC Good Food website.
