This is a short letter of appreciation for Anand. While I recognise that his perspective often sparks disagreement – myself included on several occasions – I cannot overlook the incredible depth of knowledge he brings to the table. Every time Anand speaks, I find myself learning something new and interesting. For that, I sincerely thank him.

I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to seek your insights on the growing trend of historical revisions in India, particularly efforts by entities like the RSS and BJP to reinterpret history to suit specific agendas.
It is deeply troubling to see iconic figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Periyar being vilified, while individuals like VD Savarkar are being glorified. This distortion influences public perception, especially among the younger generation, leading to a skewed understanding of our nation’s past.
What could be the long-term impact of such revisions on national unity, historical scholarship, and global perception? How can we safeguard the truth of our history against these distortions?

Over the last few months, I had found NL reports and interviews – especially the election coverage – repetitive and not incisive. Also, the regular NL Hafta felt jaded and I had been thinking of not renewing my subscription after many years. Interviews with Shehla Rashid are all fun for eyeballs and hopefully it will help NL get new subscribers. But that is not the kind of coverage I had been looking for.
But I recently have been going over the reports by Sumedha Mittal on the electoral rolls in western UP. What a cracker set of reports and I am hooked for one more year to NL. Kudos to everyone at NL and happy new year!

Hi NL team, I wanted an NL Sena on elections where I hear 40 lakh votes got added in 2024 in Maharashtra, whereas in 2021-23 it was 36 lakh (from Rajdeep’s interview) and last-hour votes with increased percentages. Is there a correlation in a constituency with increased votes and increased voting percentages in the last hour? It was a tradition only the time of election is managed by government. But seeing delays in poll data and last-hour increased percentage of votes, the EC’s credibility is heavily damaged in my mind. I would love to have an interview with Parakala Prabhakar. Having said this, opposition should go with a slogan “no vote means voting for BJP” – this can be a common point across the INDIA alliance even if they are fighting each other in the Delhi election.

Hi,
Since Rajdeep Sardesai is giving interviews to everyone under the sun for his new book, is NL planning to interview him? Or has Kallie Purie forbidden him?
Best,
Aditya

Hi Abhinandan, this isn't about a particular episode but a general response to your criticism of the police in many discussions. I agree to a large extent, especially because in daily life, the police is often the primary vehicle for the atrocities of a bad government to express themselves.
I wrote a short comic for Comixense magazine recently (you should check them out) and I felt it would resonate with you. Please do read it when you have five minutes to spare. Link below.

Appreciate you and the team as always. Happy New Year.

Hi team,
I’ll keep this short, no way I am asking you to change your line “pay to keep news free; because when the public pays the public is served”, because I believe it’s way too classy and punchy.
But try incorporating this line as well whenever you all can, if it does sound good: “news shouldn’t be owned by billionaires, but by a billion people!”
Thanks and keep up the good work.
A proud subscriber,
Abin

Going back to ballot paper for voting can be difficult because there were concerns about ballot stuffing back in the day. But I have a question: If EC doesn't come clean with the reasons why there is an increase in voter turnout percentage after 5 pm, can this not be an equivalent of ballot stuffing through EVMs? The difficult part here would be to get EC on your side (which the government has cracked) otherwise stuffing ballots is a more tedious task than pressing the EVM button multiple times.
Thank you for the campaign against air pollution. I look forward to contributing to it.

The recommendation Excel file is still at episode 514, please take note. Also the shortcomings of the app as suggested by me and other subscribers have not yet been addressed, please pay attention to these aspects also.

I just wanted to thank you guys for covering Bastar (two stories in December alone). As someone from Bastar, I deeply appreciate it. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the nice year end Hafta. My question is to Abhinandan. In the last Hafta, I got the feeling that Justice Lokur was not giving too insightful answers to your questions, and that you were trying to probe him more. Was this the case? And if yes, do you gather such observations to then later use with regard to which guests are invited to Hafta?

2024 has been a very informative year from NL. I wanted to point out the inconsistency in the subscription purchase options via various channels. The website offers only joint NL+TNM option, while the iOS app allows just NL subscription (although at a higher price, maybe Apple commission) and the QR code shared during Newsance has just NL purchase option.
While I understand a joint subscription can help both the platforms better, the consistency in options via various channels will allow more flexibility for the subscribers.

Watched the Rajdeep interview, kudos to Manisha. She has great interview skills, also Rajdeep took questions very well.
I have been listening to NL saying the subscription has gone down. I think you should give more subscription options, for now it's very limited. Maybe quarterly subscriptions with different amounts to choose from or number of users who can access. Current plans are very limited and look pricey for a new user or person interested.

Happy New Year, NL team! I recently subscribed, and the perks already make me feel this could be a lifelong subscription! Loving the shows, interviews (especially the one with Shehla Rashid – though I wish Abhinandan had gone all out instead of holding back), reports, podcasts, and more. You’re simply awesome!
A big shoutout to Abhinandan, Manisha, Atul, Sumedha, Anmol, the incredible Anand Sir, and everyone else – you all make NL what it is.
A small request: could you add links to the books or stories you recommend during your shows? It would be great to access them directly. Also, I’d love a discussion on the rise, fall, and potential comeback of communists in India. As someone from West Bengal, I’m curious about how the TMC dismantled the cadre system and why the Left is now struggling for relevance.
Keep rocking, team!
PS: Abhinandan, if you’re ever in Kolkata, drop a post – we can squeeze in a match together!
