I have a question for the future Chief Justice of India, Anand. If you haven't watched the Sansad speech of RG or PM, how do you have such strong opinions of RG’s speech and an acceptable vision of PM’s speech? You have the right to have your bias, but if one plays dirty, the other has to play dirty to win. I would love to know your view on Samvidhan Hatya Diwas. Wish we had Economy Hatya Diwas for note bandi or Berozgar Diwas for unemployment. I am anguished and speechless at what our focus is despite so many ongoing issues.

I’d back that mail that suggested Daily NL in the last podcast. I’d look forward to hearing you guys share the day’s news. Try including major headlines and breakdowns of anything important (it’d require some trial and error).
I’d love to see more of you guys because I mostly hear you on weekends only, and if there’s some important story, I check the app to see if you’re doing a story on it. This move may as well bring subscribers closer to NL.

Just read the full report by Nidhi Suresh on TNM. What a report! Beautifully written. The entire money for the annual joint subscription has been redeemed through this one report. I felt really sorry that she had to interact with a vile person like John Vijay for her story. Nidhi is a gem of a journalist and we are all blessed that we get to see and read her excellent reportage. I hope we all get to read a lot of her works and also get to hear her in podcasts. She was excellent in Reporters Without Borders and lit up the one A&A episode she was in. We all are lucky that we still have journalists like Nidhi working for us. All power to her and you all. Thank you.

I have a suggestion, I’ve been listening to NL hafta for about a year now. However, sometimes I may miss an episode. In every episode, you folks give a recommendation. I’d love it if the recommendations can be documented so that even if I miss an episode, I can look up what was recommended in any particular episode.

I just got my NL subscription on student’s discount...The only good thing about starting college was that I could finally avail the discount (and the most anticipated thing about college was that I could finally land a discounted subscription). I promise to avail a full subscription once I can afford to. I agree with the panel that Chennai is a totally boring city with absolutely no north Indian food and language problems. I know this because I am currently studying Eco in Chennai. I love you guys’ work and while I am away from home, it serves as a connection to home.

Regarding the Karnataka job reservation, I think it was a great plan if the reservation percent was kept lower to 25/30 percent. I’m working with a top financial organisation, and I can see that people with hiring power are preferring candidates from their native state. The team I’m working with has 45 members, and just two locals. My previous company had four locals in a team with 102 members. It’s the same story in other teams/companies. But not that the state lacks skill. When I refer a local person with a 100 percent skill match for job positions, they are not even interviewed, and they end up hiring people from their states (when I say local, I’m referring to residents of Karnataka, and not just Kannadigas, as there are many languages spoken here). I feel that this kind of reservation is bad, but there is no other option when the situation is this bad.

In response to the point that Trump is good for legal immigrants, this is a completely specious opinion held by many in the US who were not in the immigration process during Trump. I was on H1B during his previous term, and even though my visa was applied through a Fortune 20 company, there were many issues they purposely created for legal immigrants and denied visas. In fact, even with 12 years of work experience, I was forced to prove how my job in 2018 tied to my bachelor's degree in 2002. It was a completely racist cabinet that actually was horrible to all immigrants. This is just a refrain that the Trump team peddles seemingly quite successfully, though it is completely untrue.

Hi team, while I have heard many triggering things on Hafta, I was finally moved to write in after the heartless and inconsiderate slander that Raman sir visited upon a city I adore in the “boring cities” trifecta. I have lived in each of the three cities mentioned and can confirm his views on two of them, Patna and Jabalpur. But to call Bhopal boring is not just slanderous, but ridiculous. Clearly, Raman sir’s host while he was in Bhopal was an Indori. It has the rare distinction of having three UNESCO World Heritage sites. It has an absolute dizzying number of lakes with a bunch of fun or leisurely activities to participate in. There is a good arts and culture scene, particularly theatre, gazals and classical (Gundecha brothers). The Tribal Museum, State Museum, Manav Sangrahalay and Van Vihar are enough to fill up any weekend. The food and heritage hotels are enough to satisfy any snob. Maybe sir wanted some dhinchak Punjabi music, and in that we proudly admit our inability to comply.

This is regarding Hafta 495. Being an ex-Mumbaikar, it gives me pain when someone says Bombay instead of Mumbai. You guys don’t say Madras, Calcutta or Allahabad and yet you stick with Bombay. We point out this and then Abhinandan would start ranting about Marathi manus. You don’t show decency of uttering the official name of a city on our part and that’s pathetic.
PS: I am a Kannadiga, born in Karnataka, and brought up in Maharashtra.

Hi team, I have been a subscriber since 2020. I was a PhD student, living off a stipend, so my subscription plan was monthly with auto-renewal. However, I have had so many issues with it since the last few months that I had to bug your tech team each time it was time for renewal for the last three months. The team was gracious enough to help me, but I felt embarrassed each time I had to write a “complaint email”. So, now that I got my first pay cheque from my first ‘real’ job, I upgraded to an annual subscription. However, it got me thinking that there might be many other people who want to support the news but can’t afford an annual payment. Therefore, fixing the monthly auto-renewals is critical and can help boost membership numbers. Also, locating to subscribe for a monthly plan both on the app and the website is a tremendous task. Please look into this issue and improve the user interface for the same so that people may continue to subscribe and support independent media.
