One of London’s skinniest homes — measuring less than three metres wide — is currently on sale for £1.3 million.

The two-bedroom house on Richmond Road, Hackney, is 8 ft 11 inches (2.72 metres) at its widest point — only three inches wider than a tube carriage.

The 895.5 square foot (83.2 sq m) property, dubbed ‘Narrow House’ by architect Martin Reynolds, is spread over four floors, with one bathroom, one reception room and a garden.

Priced at £1.3 million, the Richmond Road house costs £1,451.61 per square foot — 2.6 times more than the London average of £562 per square foot, according to Zoopla.

In terms of price alone, the house is almost double (1.8 times) that of other properties in London Fields, which had an average asking price of £733,913 last year.

Narrow House is described by estate agent Dexters as “a truly unique house” which has been “cleverly designed to maximise light and space”. Both sides of the ground floor, for example, are glass-fronted, with skylights to bring in further light.

The property is a converted coach house, an outbuilding which would have once stored a horse-drawn carriage.

As part of Reynolds’ design, the four floors are connected by a bespoke steel and timber staircase.

Narrow House has been extended at the rear to accommodate a reception room, which leads out onto a long, south-facing garden. It also comes with off-street parking.

The house’s only bathroom is on the lower ground floor – four floors down from the bedroom at the top of the building.

Narrow House was built by local construction company Adam Lloyd Construction, who have worked on several projects in the area, as well as The Coach pub in Clerkenwell and a renovation of The Harcourt, a Grade II-listed pub in Marylebone.

The Hackney home was last sold for £175,000 in 1999, and is currently on the market with Dexters for £1.3 million.

Other skinny houses recently up for sale in London include a £2 million glass-fronted mini skyscraper in Clerkenwell, measuring just 10 ft 6 inches across, as well as a converted stable in Stoke Newington for £1 million, at 8 ft 11 inches wide.
