Around 70 firefighters were scrambled to a Hackney secondary school after a fire broke out on the second floor.
London Fire Brigade was called to Mossbourne Community Academy in Downs Park Road shortly after 9am on Saturday and found a small part of the second floor was alight.
Ten fire engines attended the scene as worried locals looked at the commotion at the school, which is attended by around 1,500 students.
The Metropolitan Police were also at the scene and a cordon had been established in the area at around 11am.
“One of the brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as a water tower to help fight the fire from above,” a statement from the emergency service read.
There are currently no reports of any injuries and the fire was under control by 11.30am.
Mossbourne Federation, the academy group, has not yet commented on the fire.

Mossbourne Community Academy founded in 2004 and offers secondary education from 11 as well as a sixth form.
The fire comes after the school’s sister academy in Victoria Park made the headlines.
Last month, the Guardian reported that parents had raised concerns that teachers had “screamed at” pupils.
A spokesperson for the Mossbourne Federation said at the time: “We were saddened to read these accounts as we do not recognise the characterisation of the school.
“While we have high expectations of behaviour and attitudes to learning, we are very proud of being a diverse and inclusive trust, in which children and young people thrive and go on to secure outstanding results.”
