'Hacked': Ruth Davidson's Twitter account tries to flog cheap laptops

RUTH Davidson has said that her Twitter was “hacked” after her account started trying to flog cheap MacBook Pros.

The Apple laptops sell for between £1349 and £3749 according to the firm’s official website, but Davidson’s Twitter account claimed she had ten that she wanted to sell for £500 each.

“Hello, Twitter Family. Ten MacBook Pros on sale for £500. Revenues collected from here will be sent directly to donation institutions. My DMs are open for purchase.

“Thanks, Ruth Davidson,” the account wrote in a tweet which has since been “pinned” to the top of Davidson’s profile.

But Adam Morris, who runs the Edinburgh-based Shorthand PR, said the former Scottish Tory leader’s account had been hacked.

“Ruth Davidson has asked me to let people know that her Twitter has been hacked,” Morris wrote.

“She has been in contact with the platform since last night in order to resolve.

“Ruth asks that any erroneous content or postings are disregarded until the situation is resolved.”

Other than the post attempting to flog cheap laptops, the only other activity on Davidson’s account on July 13 was a post of an image of her smiling.

Comedian Alan Davies has also been "hacked", according to fellow comic Jimmy Carr.

Carr wrote on Thursday morning: "The elderly stand up comic Alan Davies, from QI and Jonathan Creek, says he’s unable to access his old Twitter account because he’s been hacked, or possibly he’s just old and confused.

"In any case he is now to be found at @alandaviescomic Follow him for thrills."

Davies wrote on his new account: "Hello, my old account, the terminally tedious  @alandavies1 has been hacked by fraudsters trying to extort bitcoin for a non-existent cancer charity.

"This is conduct entirely befitting the new Twitter but I disapprove. I’ve lost my followers so appreciate all of you all the more."

Davies's old account had more than 800,000 followers. Davidson has 209,000 followers.
