Hacienda Classical to return to the Castlefield Bowl next summer

Hacienda Classical is making a return to the Castlefield Bowl next summer, as part of the Sounds of the City festival. It’ll happen on July 8, 2023, with tickets due to go on sale this Friday.

This will be the seventh Hacienda Classical event, with the first happening in 2016, when the Manchester Camerata orchestra collaborated with New Order’s Peter Hook and DJs from the iconic venue to transform famous rave classics into classical anthems.

This year, US legends and former Hacienda regulars Todd Terry and Roger Sanchez will be on the bill, alongside Hooky and ex-Hac resident Graeme Park. The news comes as the Hacienda, the club founded by New Order, Tony Wilson and Rob Gretton, finishes a year of celebrating 40 years since it was founded.

Peter Hook said: “I’m so happy to be coming back to Sounds of The City in 2023. I can't believe this will be our seventh year! Amazing! Without a doubt The Hacienda and its crowd know just how to light this city up and party like there's no tomorrow. Tony and Rob would be so proud.”

Graeme Park said: “Seven appearances at Castlefield Bowl? Really? This show is always very, very special and I really can't wait to return for another epic evening in July.”

Conductor and arranger Tim Crooks will once again take on the role of managing the DJs and music on the night. He added: “Haçienda Classical in the Castlefield Bowl is the highlight of my year and I’m thrilled to be performing for a seventh year to the best audience in the world. It's always an unforgettable experience.”

The club, which opened in 1982 in a former yacht showroom on Whitworth Street, will be further immortalised in a documentary to be broadcast this weekend on BBC2. The Hacienda: The Club That Shook Britain airs at 10.15pm on Saturday night.
