'Haaland hat-trick' - Chelsea fans say same thing after Graham Potter decision vs Man City

Large sections of the Chelsea fanbase have said the same thing following Graham Potter's controversial team selection against Manchester City. The Blues boss handed Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic successive starts.

Hakim Ziyech replaced Mason Mount in the starting-eleven, with the Cobham graduate said to be nursing a minor injury. What caught particular attention on social media was Potter's decision to hand Azpilicueta a start after a string of unconvincing displays.

The 33-year-old defender has struggled to fill the shoes of Reece James, who has been absent for much of the season due to injury. After having already been out for some time, the Cobham graduate picked up a fresh knock in his first start after the World Cup.

Though not as serious as his prior injury, James is set to be out again for a handful of fixtures and, therefore, Azpilicueta has been called upon. So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at some of the reaction for the Chelsea boss' controversial team selection vs City.

@Matt__fpl tweeted: "Haaland hattrick confirmed."

@OCHENDOFA tweeted: "Trevo would have been a better decision."

@AcretionDisc2 tweeted: "We are finished. 3 - 0 City. Foden will eat Aspi Alive."

@BlueSky_ion tweeted: "Why are people surprised like bro azpli is our only rb (right-back)."

@RobikinJ tweeted: "We're losing this game."

@MorCaJs tweeted: "Lol chalobah again bench."

With Ziyech coming into the Chelsea side, Potter has made more changes made to his starting line-up than any Premier League manager since October (49). Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Blues' clash with City, Karen Carney said: "I think he’s searching for a solution, when results are not going very well it’s difficult to stay with the same team.

"We know he is a manager who likes to change systems, formations - even in the same game - I think he’s played seven different formations in the last two or three months since he’s been in the job. He is that kind of manager, you know that when he comes into the job so I wouldn’t want to criticise him too much for that, but the longer he’s here you wouldn’t expect him to have the most changes - you certainly wouldn’t want to have that, you’d want to have some continuity and build confidence playing the same team.

"Maybe playing different systems, but having the same sort of players on the pitch, and that’s what Graham Potter wants. I don’t think he wants to change that many players, but sometimes the results mean you’re searching for solutions."
