Haaland and Ake to start as Man City fans choose line-up against Liverpool FC

Supporters want to see Pep Guardiola unleash Erling Haaland against Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Having formed a duopoly at the Premier League summit over these last few seasons, it was City who walked away with yet another title last campaign - albeit by a solitary point. Few would bet against them competing for the title once again this term after first getting down to business at the King Power Stadium.

Guardiola opted to shake-up his squad this summer window and Norway sensation Haaland was a marquee signing, while Stefan Ortega and Kalvin Phillips have, also, been welcomed on board. Here is the line-up Manchester Evening News readers want to see deployed by Guardiola with a first trophy up for grabs this afternoon.

Goalkeeper - Ederson

Guardiola might be tempted to expose Ortega to the domestic challenges which await and he will almost certainly be their cup goalkeeper this season. However, there is one only choice for supporters here.

Defenders - Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo

An injury to Aymeric Laporte means City will have to settle on a preferred partner for Ruben Dias to start with this season - but with John Stones missing for the United States tour it might be Nathan Ake who gets first dibs in that regard. Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo are certainties to start as full-backs.

Midfielders - Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne

Phillips will get his chance sooner or later after his £45million transfer. However, there is a familiar look to the selection here as supporters urge Guardiola to pick Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne with Rodri as their defensive shield.

Forwards - Riyad Mahrez, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish

City won the race for Haaland this summer and the former Borussia Dortmund man needed only 12 minutes to get his account up and running. Despite an injury concern, the 22-year-old is fit to play as Riyad Mahrez and £100m man Jack Grealish prepare to flank him, with Phil Foden among those on standby.
