Gwyneth Paltrow suggests only Robert Downey Jr could encourage her to make acting comeback

Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about her indefinite break from acting - suggesting just one man, Robert Downey Jr, could persuade her back.

The 51-year-old has largely stepped away from Hollywood and instead is now known for her lifestyle brand Goop, which she launched in 2008.

Speaking at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards on Monday, Oscar-winner Paltrow said her Marvel co-star Downey Jr could persuade her to make a comeback.

The duo starred in seven Marvel films together, with Paltrow playing Pepper Potts - Downey Jr’s Tony Stark’s love interest.

Paltrow first starred as the character in 2008’s Ironman - with 2019 hit Avenger’s Endgame her last appearance.

Her last non-Marvel film was 2015’s Mortdecai.

According to ET, Paltrow made no promises about returning to the big screen, but did say: “Well, it would be very hard for me to do any acting right at the moment, just because of my job. But, I guess Robert Downey Jr could probably always get me back. You know, to some degree.”

It comes after Paltrow revealed she uses her Oscar as a doorstop in her garden.

The star made the revelation in a recent episode of Vogue’s 73 Questions.

In it, she opened the doors to her home in Amagansett, Long Island, New York, showing the crew around the grounds.

At one point, Paltrow - who is also said to be eyeing up a home in Cornwall - walks past the Academy Award which is being used to prop up a door.

Paltrow won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love. She was up against Cate Blanchett, Fernanda Montenegro, Meryl Streep and Emily Watson.

Earlier this year, the star opened up about the ski lawsuit brought against her earlier this year – and said she is still “processing” the bizarre, highly-publicised trial.

Retired optometrist Terry Sanderson said the actor and wellness guru crashed into him on the upmarket Deer Valley ski resort in Utah in 2016. In March, she was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Seven months after winning the case, she called the episode “pretty weird.”

“I don’t know that I’ve even processed it. It was something I felt like I survived,” she told the New York Times.

“Sometimes in my life it takes me a long time to look back and process something and understand something.”
