Gwyneth Paltrow says she's in the 'roller coaster' of perimenopause

Gwyneth Paltrow has said she’s in the "thick of perimenopause" and it feels like a "roller coaster".

The actress, 51, admitted that going through the transition prior to menopause, when hormones fluctuate and women experience a range of symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, has been tricky to navigate.

"I'm really in the thick of perimenopause, so it's quite a roller coaster," she told PEOPLE.

“For me, I've been really trying to focus on having a very well-functioning gut and liver so that these excess hormones can be flushed out of the body and cause less symptoms.”

The actress turned lifestyle guru also said she is glad that menopause has become less taboo to talk about because "in my mother's generation that was not the case whatsoever."

The GOOP founder, who was 45 when she noticed a “shift” in body, said it was difficult at the start because the condition isn’t discussed too often.

“I just thought it was so strange that there was nowhere that I could go to understand if everything I was going through was normal," she explained, adding that her friends were going through the same thing, but no one spoke of it.

Paltrow also said as she gets older she wants to focus only on her family and take care of her health and wellness.

This includes giving up acting for good - unless persuaded not to by pal Robert Downey jr - and eventually stepping down from her wellness brand GOOP.

"I need a few more years," she told Bustle in  October, adding that she'd be "happy" to quit on her 55th birthday in 2027.

"I will literally disappear from public life," Paltrow claimed. "No one will ever see me again."
