Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder were inseparable best friends back in the 90s - but things turned sour very quickly amid extraordinary allegations. They were two of the biggest actresses in Hollywood at the time, with Gywneth starring in Sliding Doors, Seven and Emma, while Winona made a name for herself in Beetlejuice, Dracula and Edward Scissorhands.
They even dated Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who were also best pals, and were constantly photographed out having fun together at glamarous events. However, it all came crashing down in spectacular fashion when Gwyneth was accused of 'stealing' a part from Winona after seeing the script at the Stranger Things star's home.
The story goes that Gwyneth was visiting Winona's house in San Francisco and spotted the script for Shakespeare in Love lying around.
Apparently, she fell in love with the planned movie and it's claimed that she contacted her agent to try to get an audition for the leading role of Viola de Lesseps.
This caused a major conflict, as Winona had been due to get that part and was fuming when her best friend was eventually cast in the 1998 movie.
A host of other big names appeared in the romantic comedy-drama, including Joseph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Judi Dench, Geoffrey Rush and Ben Affleck.
To make matters even worse, the movie won Best Picture at the Academy Awards and Gwyneth received the Best Actress Oscar.
Dspite allegations that she 'stole' the part from her former best friend, Gwyneth has always vehemently denied that she took the role away from Winona.
During a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, the actress claimed the allegations were an "urban myth", adding: "I swear to God I did not, I'm raising my right hand on the Bible. I swear to God."
She also confirmed that she had not seen or spoken to Winona in years - and claimed her ex-BFF's "jealousy" caused her to "make up lies".
You'd think that would be the end of the controversy, but Gwyneth brought it all back up again by seemingly alluding to the feud in her Goop newsletter back in 2009.
In the post, called "Evil Tongue and Living in Negativity", she referred to a "frenemy" who was "hell-bent on taking me down".
Many people assumed she was talking about Winona - and there were some very surprising claims being made.
"This person really did what they could to hurt me," wrote Gwyneth.
"I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous."
The next part of Gwyneth's message gave even stronger evidence that she was discussing her friendship with Winona.
While she wasn't mentioned by name, many people believe there was a thinly veiled reference to Winona's arrest in Beverly Hills in 2001 on shoplifting charges.
The Stranger Things actress was accused of stealing $5,500 worth of designer clothes and accessories at a department store.
She was convicted of grand theft, shoplifting, and vandalism - and in December 2002 was sentences to three years of probation, 480 hours of community service, $3,700 in fines, and $6,355 in restitution to the Saks Fifth Avenue store.
Not naming the individual in her post, Gywneth wrote: "One day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person.
"My reaction was deep relief and…happiness. There went the high road. So, why does it feel so good to hear something bad about someone you don't like?"
Gwyneth has never confirmed who she was speaking about - but one thing we do know for certain is that Winona is not on her Christmas card list.
