Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed how she approaches the topic of sex with her teenage children.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Paltrow spoke about how she handles the topic with her daughter Apple, 17, and son Moses, 15, who she co-parents with her ex-husband Chris Martin, and said she encourages them to “stay really close to your own truth.”

“I try always to be neutral on the topic,” she said.

“I think my generation, we got a lot of messages around sex that made us feel bad about it.”

Paltrow added that she “follows their lead” and realises that they are more likely to want to talk to people other than their parents about it.

“I try to just be curious,” she continues. “Luckily, in middle school, they had a very thorough sex education, so the school handled the kind of birds and the bees parts. Then I am there for any questions, but the questions are pretty minimal.”

She said she advises them to be true to themselves. “I think the main thing that nobody ever tells you, is you have to stay really close to your own truth and you have to stay really in integrity with that truth,” she said.

“Because when you are in a relationship and you are not being your full self, you are sublimating things or you are white knuckling through something, and I think it can be pretty damaging to how you feel about yourself.”

The actress and was promoting her new Netflix series Sex, Love & Goop in which she follows real-life couples and helps them improve their sex lives. It follows her previous Netflix series, The Goop Lab, in which she explored a number of wellness trends including “energy healing” and using psychedelic drugs.

Last year, she hit headlines by releasing $75 ‘This Smells Like My Vagina’ and ‘This Smells Like My Orgasm’ candles, which we’re sure her teenage children were thrilled about.

Sex, Love & Goop premieres on Netflix on 21 October.
