Gwyneth Paltrow accused of mocking Meghan Markle with pyjama breakfast video

A video posted by Gwyneth Paltrow has sparked speculation on social media that the actress and businesswoman was mocking Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series.

The clip shows Gwyneth cooking breakfast in her pyjamas, in what some believe to be an intentional parody of Meghan’s Netflix cooking show, ‘With Love, Meghan’.

Notable similarities include the presence of a dog, a monogrammed mug, and the use of the song ‘This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)’ by Natalie Cole.

Some fans have pointed to these parallels as evidence that the post was poking fun — particularly at the fact that Meghan hired a kitchen for her show, while Gwyneth filmed herself at home.

One X user wrote: “Go Gwyneth. And she has a real dog in her own real kitchen on her own real property.”

A fan added: “Even the music... that's Natalie Cole 'this will be (an EVER lasting love)’”

Another said: “Lol isn't it this the song they keep using in the Meghan Markle promo?”

Commenters also praised Gwyneth’s lack of makeup, in contrast to the glamorous look sported by Meghan on Netflix.

One said: “'Gwyneth Paltrow continues to throw shade & I'm here for it! No makeup in her actual kitchen!”

Fans also seized on the fact that both celebrity actors cooked eggs as well as featured a jar of either jam or chutney.

The inclusion of a monogramed mug was also taken by some as a tip-off to Gwyneth’s playful intentions.

A fan penned: “Notice the lettering on the cup?!!” while another said: “The monogram mug!!”

Despite this compelling evidence, others have argued that it is unlikely that mockery was Gwyneth’s aim, pointing out that she had made similar videos before With Love, Meghan first came out.

Indeed, there are also several differences between the alleged parody and the original.

The women appear almost completely opposite in what they’re wearing and cook many different dishes.

A more sceptical voice on social media said: “Eh, she's been doing these kinds of videos forever” while another commented “shade at....? I’m not getting it.”

With Love, Meghan has been renewed for a second season on Netflix despite receiving tepid reviews with a 3.1 on IMDB and a 33 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking to Vanity fair on Tuesday, Gwyneth said: “I don’t know Meghan… I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely.”

She also claimed to have not even seen the trailer for Meghan’s Netflix show and throw off suggestions that she might feel threatened by Meghan’s increasingly Goop-adjacent brand.

She said that when “there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.”

She repeated words her mother told her when she was a child, saying: “Another woman is never your competition.

“What is right for you will find you.”
