Gwendoline Christie bullied for her height and told she'd NEVER be an actress

Netflix watchers and DC Comics fans may recognise Gwendoline Christie when they tune into new series The Sandman.

Christie portrays Lucifer in the new fantasy drama series, based on the Neil Gaiman comic of the same name, which premiered on Netflix today (August 5).

But the tall blonde, who caught the eye in a series of stunning ads for crystal company Swarovski last year, may never had been an actress if she'd listened to bullies - or her agent - when she was younger.

How tall is Gwendoline Christie in feet?

Christie stands at 191cm tall, or 6ft 3in.

The 43-year-old has previously spoken about being bullied and stared at for her height, and told she would never succeed as an actress because of her unconventional appearance and tall stature.

She has said this only motivated her to pursue her dream and cites Tilda Swinton as an inspiration after seeing the pale, 180cm actress in Orlando.

Was Gwendoline Christie in Game of Thrones and Star Wars?

Christie is perhaps best know for playing Brienne of Tarth in hit HBO fantasy-drama series Game of Thrones.

Following the end of the series in 2019, she discussed why she supported the controversial Brienne sex scene with Jaime Lannister and her character's own ending.

She also portrays First Order stormtrooper Captain Phasma in the Star Wars films The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, a role she has described as "revolutionary".

Who else is in The Sandman?

The Netflix adaption of The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge as Dream (or Morpheus), the titular character, with Christie featuring as Lucifer Morningstar, the ruler of Hell.

She appears alongside the likes of Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as Corinthian, Jenna Coleman as occult detective Johanna Constantine, Charles Dance as a charlatan occultist, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Asim Chadhry as the biblical Cain and Abel.

Stephen Fry plays a bodyguard and Kirby Howell-Baptiste portrays Death.

The series also features the voices of Patton Oswalt and Mark Hamill.
