Gutterball bowling alley in North Shields reopens for half-term after £250,000 refurbishment

A North Shields family entertainment venue is welcoming families through its doors for its first half term since it underwent a stylish refurbishment.

A quarter of a million pounds was invested into Gutterball Alley at the end of last year to introduce brand new bowling lanes, interactive darts, and karaoke pods.

The 16-lane bowling alley also has a new look following the revamp, welcoming the addition of a giant neon graffiti wall.

Families have been flocking to the venue this week for some half term entertainment, taking advantage of its special half term opening hours from 9am until late.

Gutterball Alley in Rotary Way replaced the former Star Bowl at Royal Quays back in 2019, offering a “premium” bowling experience that was a cry from older bowling venues.

The Lane 7 group are behind the North Shields attraction, who are renowned for their modern style - their venues promise visitors “bowling like you’ve never seen before”.

After first opening Lane 7 in Newcastle city centre back in 2013, Lane 7 have since branched out across the UK, with sites in major cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Lane 7 is returning to its North East roots to open its latest venue, announcing plans to launch a new site in Durham city centre later this year.

Gutterball Alley is the family-friendly version of the original Lane 7 on St James’ Boulevard, which is an over-18s only venue after 7pm.

The North Shields site offers plenty by way of entertainment - as well as the new features, there’s also a large arcade area, pool, ping pong, and mini golf.

Gutterball Alley also has a bar and dining area serving up burgers, hot dogs, and smaller bites on their “Bairns Menu”.

Their “Baller Package” offers a game of bowling, a round of mini golf or one hour of gaming, a meal and a drink for £22, or £17 for kids aged 16 and under.
