Rhys Williams says he is "gutted" his Swansea City stay didn't go to plan as he heads back to Liverpool.
The Reds recalled the young centre-back on Thursday, with the official news coming as little surprise to Swansea supporters.
Williams has failed to break through into Russell Martin's first-team plans since his summer switch from Anfield.
He made just seven appearances for the Swans in that time.
In a statement, Swansea said: "Rhys Williams has been recalled from his loan spell at Swansea City by parent club Liverpool.
"The 20-year-old defender has made seven appearances for the Swans since joining towards the end of the summer transfer window.
"Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Rhys for his contribution during his brief time at the club, and wish him every success in his future career."
Williams used his Instagram account to sign off his time in south Wales with a message to supporters.
"I’d just like to thank everyone at@swansofficial for making me feel part of the family from the get go," he wrote.
"Gutted it didn’t go to plan but it’s been a pleasure to be a Swan for the time I was given. Wish the club all the best in the future. Once a Jack always a Jack."
Martin spoke about the defender at his pre-Preston press conference on Thursday and praised his attitude amongst adversity.
"I spoke to him yesterday, he’s a great character," he said.
"He found it tough but he appreciated it’s been a fantastic learning curve. The maturity he showed, and he’s frustrated he didn’t play more, but we leave on good terms. Loans are not easy at this level.
"But he goes with everyone’s best wishes. I think he’s grown a lot in his time here. Not everyone works out and he needs to go back to Liverpool or maybe force his way back out elsewhere."
