Gustaf Lagerbielke Celtic loan exit confirmed but no buy clause in FC Twente deal

Gustaf Lagerbielke has left Celtic to join FC Twente on a season-long loan.

The centre-back, 24, will spend the next year in the Netherlands seeking increased game time after struggling to break into the Celtic first-team.

However, it has been confirmed there is no buy clause or option included in the loan agreement. A Twente statement explained: "The rental agreement does not include an option to buy."

Lagerbielke replaces Robin Propper at Twente after the former club captain left the club to join Rangers earlier this summer.

The centre back played just 10 times for Celtic last season after joining the club on a long-term deal from IF Elfsborg.

Lagerbielke - who has been capped for Sweden on two occasions - is under contract at Celtic until 2028.

“When I heard about FC Twente’s interest, I was immediately interested,” said Lagerbielke. “FC Twente is a club with a rich history and the team has achieved good successes in the last four years.

"After my conversation with the trainer, I got a good idea of the plans and I wanted to go to FC Twente. Next season, I hope to play as much as possible, to finish as high as possible with FC Twente in the competition. Of course, I am also looking forward to the matches in Europe.”

Coach Arnold Bruggink added: “With the arrival of Gustaf Lagerbielke we have the desired reinforcement for our defense and with that the central positions are well occupied.

“Gustaf is a physically strong defender who is both defensively and offensively strong in the air and has a good pass. He is comfortable on the ball and fits well in the Dutch competition.”

A Celtic statement confirmed: "#CelticFC's Gustaf Lagerbielke has joined FC Twente on a season-long loan. Best of luck, Gus!"
