Gurugram: Population count over 5 lakh in Municipal Corporation of Manesar areas

GURUGRAM: The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has completed the population survey, according to which the area has around 5.15 lakh inhabitants, officials said.

Officials said Manesar will be divided into 20 wards as per the population count. The survey findings have been submitted to Gurgaon’s deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav, who will constitute an ad-hoc committee for the delimitation of wards, paving the way for Municipal Corporation of Manesar’s (MCM) first polls this year.

According to the Haryana government order, out of 20 seats in Manesar, seven will be reserved for women, including scheduled caste women, and three for SC candidates. “As per the population survey, Manesar has a population of 5,15,500 (approx). We have submitted this data to the office of the deputy commissioner, who will now form a committee,” said an MCM official on Friday

Officials said that two separate ad-hoc committees will be constituted for Gurgaon and Manesar.

“The ad-hoc committees are notified by the state government for which we have sent our recommendations, both for Gurgaon and Manesar. The government is now likely to notify the committees within a week,” deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav told TOI.

“After the committees are notified, we will hold a meeting and then we will approve the delimitation draft, which will further be sent to the state government for notification. After the state government notifies the delimitation draft, the ad-hoc committees will reserve the wards after which the civic bodies will go to polls,” he added.

State election commissioner Dhanpat Singh also convened a meeting with the district administration officials and MCM commissioner Munish Sharma on Friday in Gurgaon to discuss the first elections of Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM).

The state election commissioner was apprised of the population survey in Manesar and sources said on Friday that he had directed the officials to expedite the delimitation process.

The number of wards in any municipal corporation is fixed by the state government on the basis of population under its jurisdiction.

According to the Haryana Municipal Corporation Delimitation of Ward Rules, 1994, a municipal corporation with a population between 9 lakh and 10 lakh has 32 wards, while it’s 35 wards for a population between 10 lakh and 12 lakh.

Similarly, a municipal corporation with a population between 12 lakh and 15 lakh has 40 wards.

The same is 45 wards for a municipal corporation that is responsible for a population exceeding 15 lakh, according to the norms
