The residents’ welfare association (RWA) members of five private colonies — DLF phase 1,2, 3, Sushant Lok-1, and Palam Vihar — have sought their involvement in the process of transfer after the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) takes over their colonies, as they want to be kept in the loop while bids are invited for work tenders. They said involvement in the transfer process would enable them to monitor the conduct of the work.
The residents are hopeful that mandatory services like sewage, water supply, sanitation, roads and street lights or electricity will be better after the MCG takeover, as the developers did nothing for the last five years.
Vinod Tayal, a member of Qutab Enclave Residents Welfare Association (QERWA), DLF Phase 2, said, “We have waited for a long time for this to happen. The residents have suffered a lot due to broken roads, blocked sewerage, lack of streetlights and security. Now we will monitor the funds used by the MCG for our development and will ensure we are getting the kind of service that we are paying for.”
The residents of DLF phase 2 and 3 claimed that they had streetlights installed by pooling their own money, as it had become a need of the hour. They claimed despite repeated requests, the developer continued to drag their feet in the matter. They said despite paying a hefty maintenance fee, they had to raise funds to purchase streetlights and hand them over to the developer for installation.

“Once the area is taken over by the MCG, we will ensure the safety and security of the residents are not taken for granted. We will get more security guards deployed and the repair of damaged roads will be done without any delay,” Ramesh Yadav, vice-president, QERWA, said.
The sewer line, which is blocked in many areas, will also be one of the top priorities for the RWA members.
“We will ensure the electric meters are properly installed and placed on poles. Presently, more than seven meters are installed on a single pole,” Madan Yadav, former president, RWA, DLF Phase 3, said.
The RWAs will take care of non-mandatory services like security, door to door Garbage collection, encroachment and parking.
Despite the announcement, the RWA’s are yet not clear regarding the value-added services.
“The announcement of the MCG takeover has come as huge relief, as it will help address the infrastructural deficiencies, especially electricity and roads, as well as lack of adequate water supply. We hope the civic infrastructure will improve by leaps and bounds and the MCG will work collectively with residents to make this move a grand success,” Neelu Sharma, a resident of Sushant Lok 1 and president of Residents United, a pressure group coordinating with government officials.
“We are not yet clear on the services that the MCG will take care of post the takeover. As far as we have understood, security and horticulture will be our responsibility and we will also have to ensure maintenance of parks and deployment of security guards,” Sudhir Sachdeva, member, the collegium of Sushant Lok Residents’ Welfare Association, said.
