Gunshots fired at city centre flats leaves children 'screaming their heads off'

Gunshots fired at a Dublin City Council flat complex left residents and children "terrified".

The "indiscriminate" shooting occurred on Friday night at the Mercer Street Flats just around the corner from St Stephen's Green.

Thankfully, there were no injuries associated with the shots - but a source said it left residents "traumatised".

They told Dublin Live: "Residents were absolutely traumatised and terrified. Children were screaming their heads off.

"They were terrorised with bullets flying from one end of the block of flats to the next. This is not something new to Dublin but it certainly is new to this particular block of flats."

There were no arrests made in relation to the shooting, a garda spokesman told Dublin Live.

He said: "Gardai are investigating an incident where a firearm was discharged on Mercer Street, Dublin 2 on April 8, 2022. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made."

He added that "investigations are ongoing".
