Guns found in stolen car - discovery comes after two shootings in Greater Manchester this week

Police found two guns in a stolen car parked up in Trafford.

Officers from GMP's Serious Organised Crime Firearms Investigation Team made the discovery in Stretford yesterday (Thursday). They found the two weapons in a Citreon car that had been reported as stolen.

The weapons were forensically recovered, police said, and will now be tested to see if they are linked to any previous shootings. GMP said the force has recovered 53 guns so far this year.

Another 150 guns were handed in during a three-week campaign in May. "We’re encouraged that our affront on organised crime is seeing shootings go in a downwards direction with discharges decreasing by 25 per cent last year, and the number continues to fall", police said in a post on social media.

"Our work relies on knowledge that we receive from our communities and anyone with concerns or information should pass to us in confidence knowing that we will take action on any viable leads.

"You can get in touch via our LiveChat facility or by calling 101. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

This comes after two firearms incidents in Greater Manchester this week, with shots fired in Oldham on Monday evening and a gun blasted at a house in Harpurhey in the early hours of this morning.

In Oldham, shots were fired at a man on Belmont Street by three men in balaclavas. No injuries were reported and yesterday, a spokesperson for GMP said no arrests had been made.

On Evanton Walk in Harpurhey this morning, bullets were blasted at the door of a house at around 2am. No-one was injured and an investigation is underway.
