Guinness has announced that its brand new Cold Brew Coffee Beer will land in Scotland this week.
Having launched in the US last year, the latest innovative addition to the range combines the popular flavours of Guinness with distinct coffee notes to create a brand new beer.
Dialling up the coffee notes found in the original beer it's hoped the new offering will appeal to fans of the original as well as those who have never tried a Guinness.
The popularity of coffee has surged in recent years, and recent data from the Coffee British Association (CBA) found that it has overtaken tea with 95 million cups of coffee consumed each day.
To deliver the new beer which they say reflects the nature of cold brew coffee – coffee which has been steeped in cool water for long periods of time instead of brewed with boiling water - is added to Guinness Draught, alongside additional roasted barley flavours, to balance delicate notes of delicious coffee, chocolate and caramel from the "first sip to the last".
With approximately 2mg of caffeine per can, the same as a decaf coffee, Guinness says the Cold Brew Coffee Beer is best-served ice cold, either straight from the can or in a glass.
Available in Tesco stores now – and further supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Waitrose and Asda and off-licenses in the coming months – Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer will be available in a 440ml can format at 4% ABV.
The new release follows the successful launch of Guinness MICRODRAUGHT dispense technology and Guinness 0.0% alcohol-free beer.
John Burns, Head of Guinness GB stated the new brew is "perfect for sipping while catching up with friends, when relaxing at home, or enjoyed as a delicious drink in the sun".
He said: "We are delighted to launch Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer in Great Britain this week, complementing traditional notes of Guinness Draught with a refreshingly modern new flavour to delight Guinness fans, and introduce our iconic beer to prospective new fans.
"We firmly believe we have created a taste experience truly unrivalled in the market and with over 95 million cups of coffee being consumed every day in Great Britain alone, now is the moment to offer a product that plays to an excitingly vast consumer space.
"There is already a natural connection with coffee notes in Guinness’ signature offerings like Draught and Extra Stout, so the creation of Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer was a perfect match.”
