Guinness Guru comes to Belfast to try 'mega pint' tried by Lewis Capaldi

A blogger who searches for the best pint of Guinness has taken on Belfast's biggest brew after seeing Lewis Capaldi enjoy one after his recent Belsonic gig.

The Guinness Guru – aka Daragh Curran – has raked up more than 100,000 followers on Instagram as he samples and rates the Black Stuff across the country.

The Co Meath man who is known as a "professional pinter" made the journey to Belfast this week to visit Town Square after coming across a video of singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi being brought down a "mega pint" in June.

On his pit stop at the Botanic Avenue bar, Daragh said he was here for "one thing and one thing only" on his Youtube video. Town Square's mega pint glass holds up to three and a half times that of a regular pint glass.

He said: "I saw on the video on their Instagram, Lewis Capaldi tucking into a mega pint - it's all been talk about the mega pints lately so let's go in and see what it's all about. Apparently, the glass holds 3.5 pints of Guinness."

Thomas Camblin, development manager of Town Square, told Daragh the inspiration for the pint came from the famous Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial and a TikTok video where someone was served a "massive cup of coffee".

In the video, which already has over 21,000 views in 24 hours, The Guinness Guru compares the regular pint he ordered while waiting for the mega one to settle to the size of the "novelty" pint before having a few big gulps that "barely put a dent in it".

Darragh continued: "For a mega pint it's 7.5 out of 10 - it's good Guinness, probably a bit cold for my liking, but that's probably the only complaint I have. It is pretty creamy.

"We came for the craic and came for the novelty. I saw Lewis Capaldi having a sup of one of these and wanted to get involved. For the content, for the people – a man of the people right in front of your eyes."

The "mega pint" is currently not on the Town Square menu but Thomas has ensured that if you are up for the challenge and have a thirst that needs to be quenched, you can ask to buy one from the bar.
