Guinness coffee beer is getting a mixed reaction

Guinness has been known for dipping into other drinking markets with the likes of Guinness Light, black lager and more recently Guinness 0.0.

Now, Diageo is set to launch a new beverage globally called Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer after it successfully launched in the US last year.

From today it will be available to purchase in Britain which means an Irish launch can't be too far away.

How did the folks at Diageo create this new drink?

Well according to Diageo, "coffee which has been steeped in cool water for long periods of time (instead of with boiling water) is added to Guinness Draught, alongside additional roasted barley flavours, to balance delicate notes of coffee, chocolate and caramel from the first sip to the last."

Each 440ml can contains 2mg of caffeine, the same as a cup of decaf and it is recommended that you drink it ice cold.

“The coffee notes already in Guinness make the creation of Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer a natural – and delicious - next step in our proud history of innovation," Grainne Wafer, Global Brand Director for Guinness, said.

"Coffee is not only a natural flavour companion to Guinness, but a huge part of the culture around the world, not least in the US where this beer first launched."

"With this latest innovation in Guinness brewing, we’ve introduced Guinness to new consumers as well as existing fans in the US, and this is our ambition as we launch Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer in more countries over the next 12 months."

Despite not yet being available in Ireland, Guinness Cold Coffee Brew is being brewed at St James Gate.

Some people have already shared their thoughts on the new drink after it's launch in the UK.

Sharing their thoughts on Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer, one person said: "Now I quite like 1/2 pint of cold brew coffee in the morning when I have my breakfast but, had never thought of having cold brew coffee and Guinness before. I might have to give it a try out of curiosity."

A second said: "It’s not terrible but it tastes exactly like what you get if you mixed a can of cold brew coffee and a can of Guinness together."

A third commented: "I would go HAM for Guinness coffee oh my god."

A fourth wrote: "I'm a fan of coffee and a fan of @Guinness - surely a match made in heaven..."

A fifth said: "What time of day are you supposed to drink the coffee Guinness."
