It may have been three years since the last Guid Nychburris Day but it was worth the wait for Dumfries on Saturday.
Thousands of people flocked to the town centre for the massive day of celebrations to mark the event’s 90th anniversary and the first since 2019.
Even the weather played its part all day for Cornet Ross Findlater and Cornet’s Lass Robyn Peden.
Kady Kirkpatrick was crowned the first ever Queen of the South from the North West Community Campus before, in a break from tradition, a choir sang instead of a singer.
Guid Nychburris Festival Association chairman John Caskie said: “It was just absolutely amazing. We couldn’t believe the amount of people who were out in the streets from the first thing in the morning until the last thing at night.
“Everybody – from the youngest to the oldest person involved – had a smile on their face from the beginning until the end.
“There were 192 horses, seven pony traps and two police horses joined to take us over the 200 mark which was great.
“There were a couple of fallers at the Kingholm gallop but no casualties which was good.
“The choir for the 90th anniversary went down a treat they were absolutely brilliant.
“There was a buzz through the High Street all day.
