Gtech’s haircare debut starts strong with these new straighteners – I'm impressed

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners .

Gtech caused a bit of a stir when it announced it was stepping into the world of haircare – following in the footsteps of industry heavyweights like Dyson and Shark. The Worcester-based brand launched two new styling tools – the DryOnic Hairdryer and StyleOnic Straighteners – and they arrived just before Christmas.

I’ve always had a soft spot for hair tools created by tech-focused brands, especially ones that come from the vacuum world. It usually means the engineering is thoughtful, practical and performance-driven, and Gtech’s StyleOnic straighteners are no exception.

Before I knew it, the StyleOnic straighteners landed on my desk, and I couldn't wait to put them to the test.

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners review: price and availability

The Gtech StyleOnic Straighteners retail for £99.99 and come in two stylish colourways – Oyster and Teal.

At the time of writing, you can buy them from Gtech’s online store, as well as retailers like Robert Dyas, Wilko and Currys.

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners review: design and features

One of the most exciting things about these straighteners is that they’ve been developed by Gtech itself, meaning the in-house innovation brings a few standout features to the table.

The straighteners have been designed with Ceramic Tourmaline plates, ensuring even heat distribution and less hot spots, helping to protect hair from damage. This, alongside the 10 different heat settings (140 – 230 degrees), users will be able to choose the perfect heat level for their hair type.

If you’re wondering where the name comes from, it’s all about the IONIC fast-drying technology. This clever feature helps close the hair cuticle, lock in moisture, and deliver that silky-smooth, frizz-free finish we all love. It’s becoming a must-have in the best straighteners on the market, and if you prioritise hair health, this is definitely a feature worth having.

Design wise, you’ll find a bright LED display that clearly shows your selected setting, plus instant heat-up and a 30-minute auto shut-off for peace of mind. Basically, they tick all the boxes for a top-tier styling tool.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see a protective glove and travel case included, which is always a nice bonus.

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners review: performance

I've genuinely enjoyed using the Gtech StyleOnic straighteners, and found them really effective at straightening my (sometimes stubborn) hair. The range of temperature settings was a big win for me, and as someone who prefers to avoid blasting my hair with too much heat, I was pleased to find they still worked really well even on the lower settings.

It was also reassuring to know that the Ceramic Tourmaline plates and IONIC technology were working their magic behind the scenes, leaving my hair smooth, sleek, and noticeably less frizzy.

I did notice early on that while Gtech claims the straighteners have an instant heat-up feature, it actually took a few minutes to reach the higher temperatures. Not a dealbreaker at all, but I think the wording could be a little clearer on that front.

I’ve seen some feedback online suggesting that the Gtech StyleOnic straighteners don’t feel premium enough for the price, but I don’t agree. From unboxing to everyday use, the experience felt thoughtfully designed. I loved the gold trim on the plates, and the straighteners themselves have a smooth, soft-touch finish that feels really nice in hand.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say the LED screen felt a little oversized – it works just fine, but visually, I think a smaller screen could make the design look a touch sleeker next time around.

Overall, I was really happy with them. They’re a solid first step for Gtech into the haircare world, and I’m excited to see what the brand comes up with next.

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners review: verdict

The Gtech StyleOnic straighteners are an impressive first step into haircare from a brand better known for home tech. With thoughtful extras, sleek design and features like ceramic tourmaline plates, ionic tech and 10 heat settings, they deliver smooth, healthy-looking results – even at lower temps. Whilst the heat-up time was slightly longer than expected and the LED screen felt a bit bulky, overall they perform well and feel premium.

Gtech StyleOnic straighteners review: alternatives to consider

If you're looking for a pair of straighteners that prioritise hair health without breaking the bank, I’d highly recommend the Mdlondon STRAIT. They’re probably the closest match to the Gtech StyleOnics we’ve reviewed so far, offering the same temperature control range with 11 heat settings up to 230°C.

If you’re after a wet-to-dry straightener, the ghd Duet Style is a fantastic choice. It’s fast, lightweight and stylish – but it does come at a premium cost of £379.
