Missing out on a highly anticipated game is every player’s nightmare, but that’s the reality for many trying to download GTA 5 Enhanced from the Epic Games Store.
The free update, which brings significant improvements to the PC version, was released earlier this week. Yet, while Steam users are enjoying smooth downloads, Epic Games Store players are facing frustrating delays and issues accessing the upgrade.
Confused players are being told to buy the game outright even though they already own it, according to posts shared on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter).
Others have managed to grab the update, only to run into an error message saying: "This Rockstar Games account doesn't own GTA V Enhanced, please ensure you are using the correct account and try again.”
Some claim that those who purchased GTA 5 on the Epic Games Store are getting the Enhanced version for free, while those who claimed the game for free four years ago are now being prompted to buy the upgraded version.
On the other hand, some users claim to have snagged the update despite owning the free version.

As players scramble for a solution, it seems they may just have to wait a tad longer compared to their peers on Steam.
In its support section, Epic explains there could be a slight delay before everyone who owns GTA 5 gets access to the Enhanced edition.
Those who already own the game but haven’t seen the update yet should expect it to appear in their launcher soon, the company states.
GTA 5 Enhanced offers a host of graphical upgrades along with newer gameplay features already available on console.
PC players can expect ray-tracing features like ambient occlusion and global illumination, along with support for FSR1, FSR3, and DLSS 3. They’ll also benefit from faster loading times thanks to SSD and DirectStorage on supported devices, enhanced support for higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and framerates, and the immersive audio experience of Dolby Atmos, according to Rockstar. The update further adds compatibility with Sony’s DualSense controllers, including adaptive triggers.
PC players will also be able to enjoy GTA Online features already available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, such as new vehicles, upgrades at Hao’s Special Works auto shop, and the ability to purchase a GTA Plus membership.
However, Rockstar states that the original version of GTA Online on PC will be split into a “separate instance”, meaning players on the original version won’t be able to join sessions with those on the upgraded version. Both versions will remain accessible to current players and first-time buyers.
