Groups fling chairs at each other's heads during city centre brawl

Two groups flung chairs at each other's heads during a city centre brawl on Saturday night.

The wild fight took place on King Street - the pedestrianised thoroughfare between St Stephen's Green and South William Street. Videos of the incident show two men crashing to the ground as they grapple each other.

A third man runs over and appears to kick one of the men on the ground while a fourth man throws a chair. More people join the fight with kicks thrown and one man is hit by a chair.

The fight is broken up briefly before it kicks off again. A woman then is knocked to the ground.

She is helped up by another woman. Meanwhile, a woman in white was innocently caught up in the middle of the melee.

Just before the end of the video, a voice is heard saying: "This is Dublin." Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that they have launched an investigation into "an alleged public order offence".

A spokesman said: "Gardai are investigating an alleged public order offence that occurred outside a licenced premises on King Street South, Dublin 2 at approximately 11:45pm on Saturday January 28, 2023. Enquiries are ongoing."
