Group of teens launch 'missiles' at police on patrol

Police in Skelmersdale said they were attacked by a "large" group of teenagers.

Officers patrolling Sandy Lane said they had missiles "launched" at them and their vehicles on Tuesday night. According to a post on the Skelmersdale police Facebook page, the police have been providing an increased police presence around Skelmersdale due to an increase in anti-social behaviour.

In recent months police have been called to "multiple" incidents of anti-social behaviour and in September a Section 34 Dispersal Order was put in place after officers at the Concourse Shopping Centre had projectiles thrown at their car causing damage to their vehicles.

A post on the Skelmersdale police Facebook page said: "Your local officers are back out and about patrolling in the Skelmersdale and Ormskirk areas this evening.

"With bonfire night approaching, we are paying attention to ASB hotspots and providing an increased police presence in our communities. Whilst undergoing our duties tonight, some of our officers were subjected to missiles being launched at them and their vehicles by a large group of teenagers on Sandy Lane, Skelmersdale.

"We do not tolerate this behaviour. Those who are identified will be dealt with accordingly and will face serious consequences. We strongly encourage all parents/ guardians to keep up to date as to where their children are and who they are with."
