Chief Inspector Derek Riley confirmed police were called to Anfield Road before adding: "We will not tolerate violence and officers are currently viewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the disorder." At the time of writing no arrests have been made.

In the video widely shared on social media, two groups of men can be seen scrapping in the street. A number of men can be seen throwing items found on the street including traffic cones and bins towards each other.

One man is punched several times in the head before being hit with a traffic cone. As the fighting progresses up the street, riot officers arrive and begin dispersing the crowds using batons.

Following the fighting a man is seen lying motionless in the road. A large group of officers eventually arrive and force the groups of men to disperse clearing the street.

The fighting on Anfield Road was one of a number of disturbances following the match. Two men were bitten by a police dog after patrols were deployed to Stanley Park following reports of a fight as fans left the stadium. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said that "the men refused hospital treatment and engaged with officers before leaving the park".
