Grosvenor Hotel fire was 'deliberate', service confirms

An investigation has confirmed that the cause of a fire at a derelict hotel in Bristol was 'deliberate'. On October, 18 2022, crews from Avon Fire and Rescue Service received a large volume of calls regarding an incident on Victoria Street in the city centre.

Fire crews discovered a blaze on the ground floor of the Grosvenor Hotel and people were urged to avoid the area. A number of road closures were in place are firefighters worked hard to put out the flames and a nearby building was evacuated.

Just weeks after the blaze broke out, the fire service has confirmed that the cause is believed to have been 'deliberate'. A spokesperson for AFRS told Bristol Live: "After fire investigation, including previous recent calls to the same premises, fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire on Victoria Street, Bristol, on Tuesday 18 October, to be deliberate".

What happened in the incident?

AFRS control room received a call at 9.58pm reporting an incident on Victoria Street. Crews from Temple, Bedminster, Hicks Gate, Kingswood, Patchway, Avonmouth, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare all attended the scene where they found a fire on the ground floor of a derelict building.

A number of roads were closed in the area and people were urged to stay away.

There were fortunately no casualties and a number of people were safely evacuated from a neighbouring building.
