Groom who jilted bride on the day of their £12,000 wedding refuses to apologise

A groom who jilted his bride on the day of the their wedding has refused to apologise.

Kayley Stead found out on the morning of her big day that her partner of four years Kallum Norton would not be there. Despite this, the 27-year-old went ahead with the £12,000 ceremony on September 15 in Swansea, surrounded by her loved ones.

Speeches were still read with professional photos and she took her first dance with the groomsmen, her brothers, and her dad, Brian. She bravely entered the party singing along to Lizzo's 'Good as Hell' with her bridal party after learning that Kallum wasn't going to show up.

The Sun has now revealed that Kallum is a newly-qualified PC with Gwent Police and he passed out from training just days after jilting his bride. The pair, who lived together in Swansea, had been due to attend the parade together after getting wed.

But when asked by The Sun if he would say sorry to Kayley, Kallum said: “I don’t want to talk about the article.”

Insurance clerk Kayley, who now lives alone and had to cancel her honeymoon, has admitted that she is glad she still went ahead with the big day, so that her money and effort were not wasted. Her friends have gone above and beyond to support her and have barely left her side following the jilting.

Kayley told The Mirror : "I saw the groom at around 4pm the day before the wedding and I haven't heard from him since. We've tried to reach out to him, but I've had no response from him, no reason why. I've had no explanation - not that I want one now, because it's too far along the line.

"It was an absolute shock, I had no indication he was going to do this but seeing my girls distraught as well made me want to turn the day around. I didn't want to remember the day as complete sadness.

"The whole day, we were saying it felt like an episode of Hollyoaks or EastEnders. It didn't feel like a real-life situation. There were so many special moments, like my wedding entrance, the sparkler walk, the first dance and punching the wedding cake - so there was still happiness in the day.

"I'd spent all this money, I'd been looking forward to the food, a dance with my dad, spending time with my family, so why not?"

Kayley and Kallum started going out in December 2018, with her ex getting down on one knee and proposing to her in August 2020. On what was meant to be her last night as an unmarried woman, Kayley spent the evening celebrating in an AirBnB with her bridesmaids, with Kallum and his groomsmen staying in a caravan close to the venue.

Kayley said: "The groom and I had already agreed not to speak the night before the wedding anyway, so I didn't know what was happening on his end, I didn't have a clue. I was in complete bliss, unknown bliss."

But Kallum had left the caravan he was staying in with his friends, never to return on the eve of his wedding. It was up to the groomsmen to make contact with the bridal party to let them know what had happened.

After she was jilted, best friend and bridesmaid, Jordie Cullen, 27, set up a GoFundMe page to try and recoup some costs of the wedding and the donations have blown up. Kayley said she was 'overwhelmed' by the support and will put the money towards buying her dream home.
