Groom bans 17-year-old niece from child-free wedding but sister, 18, is going

A family have been left divided after a man organised his wedding to be child-free and refused to bend the rules - even for his 17-year-old niece.

Sharing his story anonymously, the girl's father - and groom's brother - said he had two daughters roughly the same age, but one was 17 and the other was 18.

The groom had set the cut-off age at 18 and refused to budge, which meant that one of the girls could go but the other had to stay at home - even though they were born just a day apart.

The man was angered by the news and said he would be taking his 17-year-old daughter anyway, and now the family has been left divided.

Taking to Reddit, the man wrote: "My brother is having a wedding soon. The invite he sent to my family specifies that the wedding is child-free and 18+.

"I have two daughters, twins. However they have different birthdays due to them being born a few minutes apart. 'Jenna' was born a few minutes before midnight and 'Brenda' was born shortly after midnight.

"The wedding is on the day of Jenna’s birthday, so my older daughter will be of age while my younger, Brenda, will not.

"I know it would be disrespectful to bring Brenda to the wedding since she’ll only be 17. But on the other hand, it seems unfair that Brenda will be unable to go while her twin sister will.

"I talked to my brother and he said that the rules are the rules and it would be unfair if Brenda were to come since he has another 17-year-old niece who won’t be allowed so it wouldn’t be fair to allow one but not the other."

After sharing his story on Reddit, other users were quick to comment their opinion and said the groom was in the wrong.

One said: "Technically, you'd be going against their rules, but if your brother wants to be that petty then I say just don't go."

Then another wrote: "If I were you, I’d honestly RSVP 'no' and take both kids on a double birthday celebration as a treat for the kids who don’t deserve to be part of the grownups’ drama."

And a third commented: "Your brother is, pardon the french, bats**t if he thinks that's reasonable. They're twins."
