Groningen director states 'nothing true' in Van Veen to Rangers speculation

Groningen director Wouter Gudde has shut down suggestions of Kevin van Veen being set for a transfer to Rangers.

The striker has been widely tipped for an exit from the club in the Netherlands next month.

However, Gudde has stated in no uncertain terms that wild speculation linking van Veen with an imminent move to Rangers is wide of the mark.

Responding to rumours of an Ibrox move, Gudde told RTV Noord reporter Stefan Bleeker: "Nothing true and nothing heard."

Former Motherwell striker Van Veen returned to Scotland for the birth of his child. And it's been reported the forward would favour a move back to Scotland.

Groningen granted Van Veen special leave to return to Scotland and it's claimed a loan move could be sanctioned - but only if a club stumps up to cover the majority of Van Veen's salary.

Philippe Clement previously stated a new striker in January will be one of his transfer priorities.

The Belgian manager explained he will seek a new forward next month as he admitted Danilo will be out until at least the winter break.

Quizzed on whether he would make a move for another striker as a result of the injury blow, Clement said: "Yes. It will be one of the priorities."

Meanwhile, Rangers assistant Stephan Van Der Heyden last night expressed his shock at the Ibrox side's clash against Ross County being postponed.

Club chiefs announced the match had been called off after Ross County players and staff were unable to reach Glasgow due to adverse weather.

The match had been due to kick-off at 7.45pm on Wednesday, December 27 but will now be rescheduled.

Writing on X, he said: "Can not even remember when I had a game postponed..."
