Grizzlies Suspend Ja Morant After He Appeared to Flash Gun Again on Instagram Live

The Grizzlies have suspended point guard Ja Morant from all team activities after the All-Star guard was seen holding a gun on an Instagram Live video Saturday, the team announced.

“We are aware of the social media video involving Ja Morant,” the Grizzlies said in a statement. “He is suspended from all team activities pending league review. We have no further comment at this time.”

Morant served an eight-game suspension during the 2022-23 regular season after he posted a video on Instagram in which he flashed a gun at a Colorado night club in March. The point guard returned from the suspension for the rest of the season and played with Memphis until the team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

The video from this weekend shows Morant in a vehicle with friends listening to NBA Youngboy when Morant briefly appears to be holding a gun. The camera quickly pans away from Morant after the gun comes into view.

In addition to Memphis’s suspension, the NBA said it will look into the incident.

“We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information,” NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said, per the Associated Press.

Morant was involved in several other troubling incidents in the past year, including reportedly threatening a 22-year-old shoe salesman last July and reportedly assaulting a 17-year-old boy in Tennessee last summer. He also was involved in an incident with the Pacers where someone in Morant’s vehicle was accused of pointing a red laser, possibly attached to a gun, at someone in Indiana’s traveling group.
