Grinning Neil Lennon reacts to Celtic derby delight as Omonia boss hopes 'nice relationship' can blossom

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon beamed to Cypriot journalists that his old team had won a "big game" as he relished a first win as Omonia manager.

And the Treble winner could even count on the support of some Cyprus-based Celtic fans keen to keep up the good vibes after witnessing the derby victory over Rangers from Nicosia.

Omonia saw off PAEEK 4-2 at home in a bonkers Monday evening clash that also saw players from both sides sent off.

The three points made for an upbeat Lennon a day after the Hoops turned over their rivals 2-1 back in Glasgow at Ibrox, with Tom Rogic scoring the equaliser before Cameron Carter-Vickers smashed home what would turn out to be the winner towards the end of the first half.

Lennon, who was dismissed as Parkhead manager in February 2021, hopes a relationship between his current and former club blossoms after some Celtic fans lent their support.

He said: “It’s very nice, Celtic fans have had a very good weekend.

“Their team won a big, big game yesterday! So it’s nice that they got to the game and have another team to support now.

“The colours of Omonia are very similar obviously to Celtic’s so hopefully that’s a nice relationship to have with both clubs going forward.”
