Grinch outfit mum bought from Amazon left kids 'traumatised'

A mum who ordered a Grinch costume off the internet said it left her kids “traumatised” when it arrived.

Angie Dickinson, 43, said she bought the £40 festive ensemble off Amazon last week, which she hoped to wear to Christmas fairs and parties throughout the yuletide season. But when the mum-of-five slipped into the costume, featuring a Santa's coat and face mask, her daughter Luvenna, 17, screamed at her.

The Grinch, a fictional character created by Dr Seuss and later played by Jim Carry in a film, is a creature who tries to “cancel” Christmas by stealing gifts and decorations.

But Angie said the costume's "bizarre" mask was more suited to a horror movie than a festive family film. She said: “What we thought was coming was this nice Grinch outfit, but what turned up was like something off ‘Scream’.

“The baby was actually playing with the mask and loving it. But my 17-year-old said: ‘Oh my god, mum, get away from it. Get away from it, it’s awful’. She didn’t like it at all. She was a bit traumatised. It is a scary mask, and it’s more Halloween than Christmas."

Full-time mum Angie, from Blackburn, bought the outfit from a third-party seller on Amazon a week and a half ago, hoping to wear it out to a community Christmas fair. For five years, she had worn an Elf costume to the local event, where she previously volunteered, but picked up the Grinch costume believing it would be “brilliant”.

But when it arrived last Thursday (November 29), she said it looked "nothing like" the picture. She added: "When I opened it, I looked at it and put it on and I was laughing but I was actually a bit mad.

“But how can you be that mad when you see something like that? It wasn’t even the same colour. It was nothing like I had ordered.

“It looks like an alien. It’s bizarre. I can’t even get over that they would send that out. I thought it would be brilliant, but I could not walk around a Christmas fair in that. People would be running scared.”

Angie said she had messaged the seller after she received the outfit, who has since agreed to give her a full refund. She said: "I should have looked at the reviews – stupid mistake on my part – because the reviews showed pictures of what it actually looked like. You don’t expect it to come any different than the picture shows.”

Amazon has been approached for comment.
