Looks like Elon Musk‘s latest publicity stunt has landed him in hot water with his ex, Grimes. The tech billionaire decided to bring their 4-year-old son along to a White House press conference, and let’s just say Grimes wasn’t exactly thrilled about it.
Musk rocked up to the Oval Office on Tuesday with little X Æ A-XII in tow. The pair were there to witness President Donald Trump sign an order giving Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency more power. Because apparently, that’s a thing now.
Little X stole the show during the event, pulling funny faces and sitting on his dad’s shoulders while Musk talked to reporters. Many X users accused Musk of using his son as a political tool.
While some people weren’t impressed with Musk bringing a kid to such a serious meeting, Grimes was more worried about her son’s privacy.
“He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me,” Grimes wrote on X after a fan tipped her off about the surprise father-son outing.
“But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
Grimes has previously stated that she has made it “clear” that she doesn’t approve of X being “paraded” around.
“I am desperate to solve [the issue],” she wrote on X in January.
“It is a personal tragedy to me. But currently I do not know how to do that.”
Musk and Grimes started dating in 2018 and had X two years later. They kept their relationship pretty quiet and had two more kids: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl (Y) via surrogate in December 2021, and son Techno Mechanicus (Tau) in June 2022.
However, by the end of 2022 the pair had split up and have been fighting over custody ever since.
Musk has 12 kids altogether with different partners, per Newsweek.
Prior to this, Grimes had accused Musk of keeping their kids from her, claiming she spent “a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights”.
In the same November 2024 tweet she also talked about keeping her distance from Elon since he delved further into politics.
She tweeted about “fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he comes unrecognisable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or IQ/strategy experience)”.
This latest drama shows that things are clearly still tense between the ex-couple as they try to raise their kids in the public eye.
