Grim footage shows the HORRENDOUS state of Greater Manchester alleyway with piles of rubbish

This is the disgusting state a Greater Manchester alleyway has been left in after being targeted by flytippers. Bags of rubbish pile up between Kenworthy Avenue and Kings Road in Ashton, Tameside.

Shocking images - taken by resident Sarah Jane - show furniture, an old fridge and a toy car among among the piles of waste left dumped. Items are left strewn along the alley while boxes and bags are propped up against residents' walls.

The footage was captured by Sarah last Thursday, shared on Facebook and with the Manchester Evening News. She said the situation was leaving her 'sick to the back teeth' - while properties are becoming 'infested with rats'.

Sarah added that 'decent, hardworking, clean, respectful people' are being 'penalised' by the actions of those who dump their rubbish - while council tax payers will be the ones to ultimately pick up the bill. Tameside Council says reports of flytipping are common in the area, with a number of fines recently issued, and it is urging people in the community to deal with their waste responsibly.

A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “We regularly receive reports of flytipping in this area and, in this year alone, enforcement officers have served eight fixed penalty notices (FPNs) on offenders for waste offences in this location. Six of the FPN’s have been paid and two are proceeding to court prosecution following non-payment.

"With regards to the current waste accumulation, it is being dealt with by Environmental Services and the necessary enforcement action will be taken. It is the responsibility of residents who have access to the alleyway/passageway to maintain them and keep clear of refuse.

"However we recognise that not all the residents are responsible for the flytipping and we’re working with residents to tackle the issue. There is no excuse for flytipping - it is totally unacceptable and disrespectful to the local community and environment.

"We have teams out every day investigating flytipping, as part of our ongoing Our Streets campaign, and we’ll always take action against offenders where we have the evidence to do so.” To report flytipping in Tameside click here, or see information on the council's Our Streets campaign here.
