Grieving partner of Finglas, Dublin shooting victim Sandra Boyd pays heartbreaking tribute on Mother's Day

The grieving partner of tragic Sandra Boyd has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her on Mother’s Day, saying: “You’re the best mother in the world.”

Mum-of-five Sandra, 36, died after she was shot in the chest at a house on Collins Place, Finglas, Dublin on Saturday, March 19.

Emergency services were alerted and she was rushed to the Mater Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

The heartbreaking tribute comes as Sandra is to be laid to rest on Monday morning.

In a post on social media today, fiance Darren Noonan wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day babe. Love you so much. You’re the best mother in the world to your kids. They never went without a single thing.”

He continued with the tribute asking Sandra “to watch over them all now babe. Love you unconditionally,” and listed their children – Ben, Jordan, Luke, Carter and Darcy - with heart emojis after their names.

Friends contributed to the tribute, saying Sandra was “an amazing mum to her children, one in a million,” and “Happy heavenly Mother’s Day to the best. You were amazing, your family was everything to you Sandra”.

Heartbroken family, relatives and friends will gather this morning at St Canice’s Roman Catholic Church in Finglas at 11.30am for her funeral Mass before burial afterwards in Glasnevin Cemetery.

Sandra’s brother Derek Boyd was charged with possession of a semi-automatic pistol after his sister was fatally shot in what a court heard was a “heartbreaking tragedy”.

The 27-year-old appeared in Dublin Disrict Court accused of firearms offences in connection with what his defence said was a “terrible accident”.

Members of his family wept and hugged him, saying “we love you so much” as he sobbed: “I’m sorry,” before he was remanded in custody on Wednesday.

He made no application for bail and the case was adjourned for the directions of the DPP.
