One person stuck in the traffic jam told Glasgow Live that people have been stuck in Sainsbury's car park since 10am with others taking to social media to urge Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council to intervene.
She said: "I was in there for an hour and 20 minutes. Think I was lucky as coming from the upper layer. There's no sign of any police!
"Sainsbury’s staff are doing their best but are basically useless. They've finally stopped people coming in but tempers are flaring big time and lots of mums are in tears."
One driver said: "Someone needs to sort out traffic management at closed off junction at Sainsbury's in Darnley. What an absolute joke total gridlock on and off A726 where is the traffic management, getting very dangerous."
Another said: "Absolute chaos at Darnley Sainsburys/McDonalds/costa etc due to the closure of A726 Nitshill Road. Absolute Gridlock no cars moving."
