‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor Kevin McKidd is mourning the loss of his father Neil.

The 51-year-old actor, famed for playing Dr Owen Hunt in the popular medical series, announced the news of his dad’s passing with an emotional tribute to him on social media posted on Thursday (24.10.24), which showed a series of pictures of his family over the decades.

Kevin captioned the carousel of images: “Heartbroken today but grateful for the years of love and laughter we all had together.

“Thank you for making mum so happy for the 56 years you both had together. Love you dad, always.”

The post included a snap of his dad smiling into the camera as well as a monochrome photograph of his parents together and his father sitting in a garden.

Kevin’s final picture in the tribute showed Neil McKidd wearing a kilt alongside the actor and his mother Kathleen.

The actor’s admission sparked a flood of sympathy from his ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ co-stars, who filled the comments section of his post with well-wishes.

Jason George posted: “Thoughts and prayers for you and your whole family,” while actor Anthony Hill added” “We love you Kev (praying hands and red heart emojis.)”

Kevin marked his father’s birthday on social media two months ago with the message: “This guy… happy birthday dad!”

In 2021, the Scottish-born actor also shared a video of his parents dancing together, which he captioned: “MAM and DAD! Everyone behold my lovely mam and dad. This is what it’s all about at the end of the day #Elgin #Scottishparents video by my brother, Steve , love you Stevie xxx”

Kevin has hailed his parents for their support after he decided to chase his acting dreams.

He told The Scotsman newspaper: “I started acting when I was very young and realised pretty quickly that it was what I wanted to do.

“No one else in my family is an actor – in fact I’m the first one to be involved in the arts.

“But Mum and Dad were very supportive, even if they didn’t understand what it was.”
