Survivors of the Grenfell Tower have slammed "shocking" plans to build a new residential tower block with only one staircase close to the site of the 2017 fire.
If approved the new building would have flats up to 35 storeys high, which is 11 more than Grenfell.
The planning documents show that the tower will rely on the same "stay put" fire strategy used during the Grenfell Tower fire, according to The Guardian.
A total of 72 people died in the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
Under current laws, tall buildings are allowed to have just one staircase if they are designed so that residents can stay safely in the flats during a fire.
The plans have been submitted by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, which owns the Westfield shopping centre.
But Grenfell United the group representing the bereaved and survivors of the fire have criticised the plans.
The group said: “Not enough has been done since Grenfell to improve building safety.”
The planning application was submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council.
A council spokesperson said: “The safety of residents is our number one priority.
“We take a tough line with developers to ensure that anything they build is fully compliant with all safety and other regulations as a minimum, and that local people are fully consulted.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “We are aware of this development and we will be providing a response to the planning consultation.”
The PA news agency has asked Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield for comment.
